Dhaka, Bangladesh’s capital, consistently ranks among the least livable cities in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Global Livability Index. In 2024, Dhaka placed 6th least livable, scoring 43.8 out of 100.
The EIU assesses 173 cities across five categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. Dhaka’s low scores reflect challenges like poor infrastructure (26.8), inadequate healthcare (29.2), and environmental degradation.
Despite mega projects like metro rail, lack of governance and coordination stalls progress. BIArb’s events, like Digital Dialogue 12, discuss solutions to enhance Dhaka’s livability.
